Bladder Snails ( Physella acuta) are my favourite snail in the shrimp aquarium. I love these guy's ability to clean. They are very fast movers around the tank doing what they do. You may get  Bladder snails  in your tank by purchasing plants and the leaves may have eggs on them. If you have Java fern or Crypts, they may eat holes in the leaves but generally if there is enough food for them to eat, they will leave plants alone. They are good companions to shrimp not harming them in any way whilst providing poo which shrimp find to their liking. They do multiply very quickly, so if you don't have a big tank or lots of tanks to move some into, you might have to manually get some out and cull them. I don't cull mine, I like lot's but each to their own. Bladder snails, Ramshorn, Trumpet, it's all about what makes you happy.  ;D

The old bladders are fast and very efficient cleaning machines for sure but not a big fan as they seem to out compete my trumpets and ramshorn and overtake your tank. The trumpets and ramshorn's are equally as slow so seem to maintain some sort of balance in numbers between them. When i started a new tank these were banned and i vowed never to re introduce them.

It's true, they breed like rabbits. The other common name for them is Pond snails and that's where they go if there's too many. Out in the pond  with the goldfish. They also keep that clean which I am happy with.  :D

Ok, I did not know bladder snail but when pond snail got mentioned I caught on straight away. I got a couple of these with a plant I bought but not knowing what they where at the time I took them out. I think I'm glad I did because my trumpets and ramshorns are going gang busters and I probably don't need three types going crazy in my little tank.  :P
